17.08.2024 en Why does Atwar die?
A few words from your favorite yapper:

The poll results speak volumes, but we need to be more precise. The game has been marketed at various times over the past few years. A few years ago, Dave shared some graphs showing when and for how long the game was marketed during the first two years of his ownership. I'm too lazy to dig them up now. When you market a product, the marketing pays off if the cost is less than the retention rate multiplied by the net profit of the product you're advertising. AtWar faces challenges on both fronts:

1. Retention Rate

1.1 Brsjak made some excellent points about the retention rate. A proper AtWar game demands an investment of 2.5+ hours from a player's schedule. What I'd add to Brsjak's points is that, on average, people now have less time - or are less willing - to spend on a single game. Both active and casual gamers prefer shorter game sessions today compared to 2014. I use 2014 as a reference because it's when I started playing AtWar. If we compare 2014 to 2024, the average game length in League of Legends, for instance, has decreased from 35-40 minutes to 25-30 minutes - a reduction of about 30%. This isn't by chance; similar trends can be seen in other long-standing games, which have also shortened playtime.

1.2 The learning curve is steep, particularly in competitive play, which has the highest learning curve. Competitive play is difficult to learn, with very few skilled players willing to share their knowledge and invest time in mentoring new players. This has always been the case, with the exception of a few major training clans created in 2013, which helped foster an active competitive scene from 2014 to 2016. Personally, I wouldn't have stayed in the game if a weirdo named Tito hadn't messaged me while I was playing Turkey in a world game. Before that, I had zero communication with the community or any players. The problem with training clans is that no one wants to run them anymore, and simply creating an "academy" branch within a clan to train new players doesn't work. Illyria and a few other former big clans tried creating academies, but only 2 or 3 players from these stayed longer than a year. Players who decide to train newcomers have to give up competing for the season's trophy. The two most successful training clans, JNA and Winterfell, together nurtured over 50 players in 1.5 years. For JNA, the result was a 2nd place trophy after two years when the training clan transitioned into a competitive one. This could be seen as the ultimate goal of such clans - to form a competitive base with their own players. Winterfell never won a seasonal trophy. Training clans could now compete for the most games played trophy of the season at least, an improvement...

1.3 Scenarios share similar issues. Mapmakers spend hours creating them, only for them to be played a few times and then to be forgotten. Unfortunately, it's up to the mapmaker to cultivate their own player base. Aetius's WW1 scenario arrived at the right time, during AtWar's peak activity, and players were willing to invest time in playing it. His scenarios paved the way for a few prominent mapmakers and dozens of active scenario players. Sadly, only Dire as mapmaker remained active from that part of the scenario community, along with about 20 familiar scenario players. We share a Discord server, which helps fill casual games, but this isn't a sustainable model for retaining new players. Players are too focused on winning and don't give newcomers a chance in these games. It's becoming increasingly difficult to fill these scenarios. Moreover, there are no guides on how to play these scenarios, so if you're not in the cartographer Discord, you won't even know the game rules, let alone the map mechanics.

2. Profitability Issues

2.1 Unpopular opinion: Playing AtWar is too cheap to be profitable for its owner. Similar browser games are much more expensive for their player base, with monthly premium subscriptions ranging from $10 to $15. I've never seen a game of this genre offer a lifetime premium option - except AtWar - especially not for a price under three figures. While this may be good for short-term cash flow, it severely limits long-term income. Dave recognized this and attempted to remove the lifetime subscription option years ago, replacing it with a $40 yearly subscription. After community backlash, he reverted to the old lifetime option.

2.2 In other similar games, monetization strategies would involve, for example, allowing players to pay a certain amount of protocoins for additional reinf in a city before reinf turn, or to escape a deadly battle by clicking on the button next to the battle in the battle screen... Implementing such features in AtWar would face backlash from the existing player base, myself included, even though I understand that this is the norm in such games, and large numbers of players still play them.

2.3 Premium prices have remained unchanged since 2014 - $6 monthly and $50 for a lifetime. At one point in 2015, the lifetime price even increased to $70. Over 10 years, from 2014 to 2024, the dollar's inflation rate is approximately 33%. Adjusted for inflation, the monthly premium should now be $8, and the lifetime premium $70.

These are some hard pills to swallow, but that's the reality. On a brighter note, here are some potential solutions I see. I'll address the issues in the same order:

1.1 Lately, I've found myself enjoying casual games, especially 24-hour ones. They take a maximum of 5-10 minutes a day, and with a bit of chatting in private messages, it might extend to 15 minutes at most. Since I have more free time than usual this month, I've joined two of these games and might join another, needing no more than 20 minutes a day on average.

1.2 The competitive scene needs to find ways to expand its base, possibly by returning to training new players. Instead of farming low ranks in duels, maybe offer to teach them a thing or two?

1.3 Let's acknowledge what Gilalad has accomplished with his Game of Thrones and Middle Earth scenarios. Out of the 88 currently active casual games, 15 are Gilalad's maps/scenarios (17%!). His scenarios are easy to learn, and all mechanics are clearly explained in the guides he creates and shares with all players via PM in every scenario started. Here are two examples of these guides for the scenarios I'm currently playing: A Feast for Crows - V6 and GoT: Seven Kingdoms. Around 60 or 70% of the players in these scenarios are low or high ranks I've never seen before. This is the way forward for the scenario community.

2.1 Lifetime premium should be removed and perhaps occasionally offered for 100+ bucks.

2.2 Consider offering a few more premium perks. Here are some reasonable examples:
- Priority in the picking queue - premium players pick first in quick games, followed by non-premium players. I don't see this as a major pay-to-win change.
- For 100 or so protocoins, a player could extend their turn by a minute (capped at one minute to prevent others from waiting too long). Multiple players could use this in the same turn, with non-requesting players receiving a message on the screen: "Turn is finished, waiting for players who requested an additional minute to complete their turn."
- An additional advanced setting to allow recruiting an extra general every 2/3/4 reinforcement turns in the capital. And, of course, an option to disable this, just like with extra cities, strategies, etc.

2.3 Adjust the prices and perhaps limit premium offers to 1, 3, and 6-month subscriptions.

Enough of yapping, bye.

Hello? Yes it's mr genius again at it. Of course the competitive community isn't gonna be most of the game, because FUN FACT not everyone is good/a tryhard BUT GUESS WHAT...... pro players are essential for creating tutorials/helping new players understand the game. More importantly you inspire new players(this game isn't so appealing) but also the competitive scene facilitates the game as fun, even a lot of scenario players love to watch the compet scene ( low ranks too) and lots of competitive players play literally all the other map modes too. While it's true compet is a small amount, being vocal is imperative to the game because of the impact is has to all players, making them encouraged and allowing discussion

I dont like the idea

(too long; didnt read)

I realize it was very long, so this is the TL;DR version:

Note that destroyers are replaced with: Battleships(main attack), Cruisers(secondary attack), destroyers(defense version), corvettes(defense). See the below screenshot of WM 2.0 units

1)It kind of sucks that NC doesn't affect cruisers/destroyers/corvettes in the new map. With this in mind, I have suggested a list of smaller buffs to match their roles(and said that corvettes should be redefined as "secondary defense"). I have also noted that other strats should probably also have similar changes.
2)Corvettes seem kind of OP vs. other naval units(especially destroyers). I definitely don't see why anyone would pick destroyers over corvettes(and I'm not convinced that battleships/cruisers are much better in either attack or defense per $ spent, except for NC battleships). With this in mind, I suggest:
a)shorter ranged, weaker corvettes that cost less. They're either only for walling, or at least that would be their main use. I suggested several options on how to do this.
b)a few destroyer buffs, including steep attack and defense buffs vs. corvettes, making them corvette hunters(also a tiny buff for other non transport ships vs corvettes).
*I don't believe that all of the buffs here should be used together.
3)Battleships would be cooler if they could have a higher capacity than WM1 destroyers. I suggest either giving them a base cap of 1 or 2, or making NC affect WM2.0 differently than in all other maps, so that NC players can enjoy their cooler battleships. This is only for coolness, and I admit that this could be bad for balance, so maybe don't do this.
4)A few points on custom maps, and how changing NC/other strats could negatively affect them(e.g. free patrol boats, super tanky secondary defense, etc.). I suggested various ways that the devs could fix these issues, like making all of the maps already made only use the old versions of these strategies, unless a mapmaker specifically chooses to use them.
a)I realize that strats are not balanced for custom maps, but changes of this sort could cause big problems to a huge number of them.

IDK, maybe I should edit my post with this as an introduction?

Ever since he dropped out of the re-election campaign, I've been hearing so much glowing praise for Biden and what a "great" President he is. Nancy Pelosi even said he was a "Mt. Rushmore kind of President". What has he done to put himself on par with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt?

Hearing and reading all of this has been so confusing to me, like living in some alternate reality where the things I see with my own eyes and experience in my daily life are the opposite of what I'm being told. Imagine if one day all the TV networks and all the newspapers proclaimed that the sky is green and 1+1=3 -- that's the how I feel watching the coverage about Biden. And then you look around and see half the people out there nodding in agreement as if to say "yes, the sky is green and it's always been green, isn't that great?"

Still, it's enough to make you question your own sanity, even if for just a moment. So after hearing all this praise for Biden and being totally baffled by it, I thought to myself, "am I the one who's wrong? Did he really do great things and I just missed it somehow?"

In this context, I decided to make an honest, good-faith effort to find out what exactly the other side likes so much about this man. I went to the mainstream regime-controlled search engine (i.e. Google) and typed in "Biden accomplishments".

The first search result is something called "The Biden-Harris Record" at whitehouse.gov -- sounds like a pretty official, legit source of information to me. So I click it and find a list of "Top Accomplishments" -- nothing better than getting it directly from the source as to why they think they're so great, right?

The first accomplishment they cite is "Lowering Costs of Families' Everyday Expenses". They even have a fancy-looking infographic for it:

They cite a couple of things like lowering the cost of insulin and capping prescription drugs, blah blah blah. None of those apply to me so I don't know if that's true. All I know for sure is the cost of everything I buy has gone up tremendously -- food, groceries, gasoline, everything cost way more than ever before. I can't be the only one who's noticed this, but they say nothing about it. Am I.... crazy here? Does nobody else go to the grocery store?

2nd accomplishment: "More People Are Working Than At Any Point In American History".... I don't know but I'm going to assume that's true because there are also more people living in this country than at any point in American history. What matters is the percentage of those who want to work who can't find jobs. To this point they claim that unemployment is at the "historically low" rate of 3.5%, but I know this number is misleading because a lot of people who couldn't find work just gave up and stopped looking. Especially after the pandemic. A lot of people have ended up doing some combination of side hustles or working under the table, or just not working at all and living off others. I'm not an economist so I can't give you an estimate, but I'm pretty sure just from what I've seen that there are a LOT of people without jobs who just aren't being counted as unemployed anymore.

3rd accomplishment: "Making More in America" -- claims companies have "announced nearly $300 billion in manufacturing investments in the United States." I don't know anything about this so I'll pass on it, except to note that just because an investment has been announced does not mean it has actually occurred yet, nor does it mean those companies can't still change their minds. No exact numbers are given for how many new factories were built or how many actual jobs were created, so I view this claim with skepticism.

4th accomplishment: "Rescued the Economy and Changed the Course of the Pandemic" -- I call bullshit on that. Trump had already turned the economy around before he left office, in the sense that it was already starting to recover. Biden then comes towards the end of that and wants to take credit for the whole thing? Anyone who was paying attention at the time would know it was Trump who instituted several rounds of economic stimulus plans (whether you agree with his policies or not). Biden walked into office and literally didn't have to do anything but continue Trump's existing policies. (Although in other ways Biden made things considerably worse, primarily with his anti-drilling, anti-energy policies that quickly made the price of gas skyrocket and in large part triggered the massive inflation problem, which had not been a problem during the Trump years.)

5th accomplishment: "Rebuilding our Infrastructure" -- I agree with the need to rebuild our infrastructure, but I have not seen any progress made in the last 4 years. Maybe I'm wrong and Biden has built a ton of stuff somewhere else in the country, but where I live and work I haven't seen a damn thing.

6th accomplishment: "Historic Expansion of Benefits and Services for Toxic Exposed Veterans" -- I'm not a veteran so I don't know if this is true. I certainly hope it is and that we are taking care of our vets.

7th accomplishment: "The First Meaningful Gun Violence Reduction Legislation in 30 Years" -- I'm sorry but you can't reduce gun violence by legislation. You reduce gun violence by putting violent people in prison and keeping them there. You reduce gun violence by putting mentally ill people in hospitals and keeping them there. Show me the numbers for how much gun crimes have gone up or down since Biden's legislation, then we'll talk (since they don't tell you, I'm betting it hasn't gone down....)

8th accomplishment: "Protected Marriage for LGBTQI+ and Interracial Couples" -- okay fine. I thought that gay marriage already became a thing under Obama... I'm not sure what exactly Biden felt needed additional protection, but sure whatever.

9th accomplishment: "Historic Confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and Federal Judges of Diverse Backgrounds" -- in other words, we choose judges now primarily on the basis of their sex and/or skin color (isn't that the definition of racism?), rather than that silly old way we used to pick judges where we hired the most experienced, most qualified person regardless of what they looked like. DEI hires doesn't seem like a step forward to me. (What ever happened to MLK's line about judging people not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character?)

10th accomplishment: "Rallied the World to Support Ukraine in Response to Putin's Aggression". This is a big topic but the short version is this: 1) it's pretty clear the U.S. had a definite role in provoking the war (you can debate what our motives were). 2) we've sent a LOT of money over to Ukraine, money that we could have better spent on our own people and problems. 3) A LOT of Ukrainians (and Russians too) are now dead while the war still goes on.

None of that sounds like a win to me.

11th accomplishment: "Strengthened Alliances and Partnerships to Deliver for the American People" -- mostly he's talking about strengthening NATO, which seems like more of a benefit to everyone else in NATO than to Americans. If China or Russia invaded the US tomorrow (not likely but just for sake of argument), I really don't see Finland or Sweden coming to save us. More likely the other way around.

12th accomplishment: "Successful Counterterrorism Missions Against the Leaders of Al Qaeda and ISIS" -- okay sure, killing terrorists is good, so I'll give Biden the win on this one. Then again, he did leave what, $80 billion-some-odd of military equipment behind in Afghanistan, which I'm pretty sure isn't going to any good guys....

13th accomplishment: "Executive Orders Protecting Reproductive Rights" -- I'll have to disagree on this one since I see abortion as morally wrong (with maybe a few very limited exceptions). But sure some people (not me) might see this as a win.

14th accomplishment: "Historic Student Debt Relief for Middle and Working Families" -- this pisses me off. I was such a dummy, I actually worked and paid my own way through college. If I had known that Biden would come a long 20 years later and just cancel those debts, why did I bother working so hard? This is a blatant attempt to buy the young college vote of today, but it's a slap in the face to those of us in the previous generation who worked so hard.

15th accomplishment: "Ending our Failed Approach to Marijuana" -- I've never used Marijuana and never will, so this is not particularly important to me, but as a libertarian-minded person I suppose in principle that Marijuana should be legalized everywhere. So that's fine and all.... but I do find the irony amusing that Harris, back when she was a DA, put so many people in prison for minor marijuana possession. I bet she doesn't want to mention that now!

16th accomplishment: "Advancing Equity and Racial Justice, Including Historic Criminal Justice Reform" -- all I know is that racial tensions/divides have gotten worse during Biden's time, not better. I'm really not sure what Biden thinks he did to make it "better".

17th accomplishment: "Delivering on the Most Aggressive Climate and Environmental Justice Agenda in American History" -- sounds like destroying our economy for no concrete benefit to the environment. Sounds like the environmentalists, the solar panel manufacturers, the wind turbine manufacturers, and who-knows who else are getting rich in the name of "saving the environment". I love the outdoors and I want clean air, clean water, etc... who wouldn't? But telling us all to drive electric cars and paying for carbon offsets doesn't seem like the answer.

18th accomplishment: "More People with Health Insurance than Ever Before" -- again there are also more people living in America than ever before... has the percentage changed? All I know is that health insurance is fucking expensive, and gets more and more expensive every year. And the coverage is shitty. My wife has actually started getting healthcare internationally because it's cheaper and the quality of service is better. The U.S. healthcare system is totally fucked -- not an accomplishment to be proud of.

So there you have it, direct from the source what Biden thinks are his greatest accomplishments. I'm sorry, I don't see any greatness here. I see a lot of bullshit, lies, and even if I give him 1 or 2 technical "wins" they are to do with issues that are really not that important in the grand scheme of things. What I see (and what's important to me) is that our economy is a total disaster and on the verge of collapse. I see a country that is no longer respected abroad. I see millions of people entering this country illegally with no vetting whatsoever. I was awake and paying attention between 2016-2020 and I remember things were so much better, not that long ago!

Tell me... what am I missing here?

16.08.2024 en Why does Atwar die?
Escrito por Phoenix, 16.08.2024 at 02:34

The real reason is that a lot of people came here to play a competitive game and the rank and clan war system was what the vast majority of players were here for in 2014/15 when the game started. But there was no emphasis on expanding the competitive scene or nursing it and making rules or a solid ranked system. These elements were not nurtured early on because ivan and Amok wanted to sell it very early on... they outsourced a lot of responsibility to mods (free) and made sun tzu an admin as the game was failing which was a poor choice and he made some weird decisions while also having his hands tied with regards to things that mattered. So over time people got bored and left. Since 2016/2017 RP was bigger but the game was already dying... player retention was poor and those in charge never appreciated this... in 2020/21 Dave was the owner and he had a disagreement with the core of the old comp community... we're talking about the few guys left that loved comp games and caused a few of us to come back and continue playing comp during covid. Then one day he banned some of those players and a lot of the remaining guys deleted their accounts in protest.... AW was already dying with the player base dwindling. But alienating the core player base that made clans relevent was what killed it. There use to be guys who played this game like a sport... opi, laochra, eagles, mauzer, commando, soldier001, creyente, Clovis and these are just some of those guys that the community looked up to... theres a history to this game most of you will never know. To get a glimpse of what it was all you need to do is search players by elo...

In my opinion (and I think I've said this before) the "comp community" is just not that important. When I researched this in detail a couple years ago, I found that the comp community is very vocal but very small part of atWar. The vast majority of our users was, and still is, first-timers and random users passing through. However atWar has an incredibly low retention rate, so few of those stick around.

I don't think getting rid of a few obnoxious players rises to the level of "alientating [a] core player base", and I don't think those few's "loss" has impacted our numbers in any significant way. Sure they made a lot of noise about it, but that was all it was -- noise. If you look at the numbers it's been one long continuous decline (except for a brief spike during Covid) from at least 2017 until now, and nothing I've done has been able to change that one way or the other.

If I were to pick the one thing that would help atWar the most, it would be an AI to play against. First-timers don't have the patience to wait for games to fill, or else they get into games with players who grossly outmatch them and get killed instantly. Either way that's no fun, so no wonder people leave. An AI player would completely solve this problem and allow people to get into the game more easily.

I find it amusing that in the poll above people voted for "no marketing". Those people must be completely unaware of the literally thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours we spent marketing the game, to no avail. Sure we got more raw traffic, but the retention just wasn't there, same as now. It was a tremendous waste of time and money, and will always be a waste unless/until something fundamental changes about the game (like the addition of an AI).

Oh well. We can still reboot atWar someday if/when time & money become more abundant for such an overhaul. Until then, it is what it is.

Around 2014-15, there were dozens of Quick games going simultaneously (I never played Casuals back then so not sure about those) at all hrs of the day - lots of activity and lots of meeting new people. Even with all those games up, you often had to rush to get into a game before it hit the max player limit. I suspect as online gaming became more advanced & popular, the interest in AtWar started to wane.

It is time for a fresh makeover of the fundamentals of how AtWar games are played, but that would require a coding overhaul as well (= $$) and it is questionable whether there would be a return on investment for Dave. Have some ideas, if Dave & Co are interested in listening.

Cheers!

I've been thinking about this reward system in game which you gain some kind of prizes for joining a coalition, linking your e-mail etc. but these are just once per account.
Nowadays every game have battlepass system that repeat itself every week/month and I think this would be a thing for atWar too. (Pls don't call me noob)

I wanted to talk about pros&cons for this system.
(Before doing that since I don't have any idea about posting stuff things may look messed up.)
Well first of all I wanted to point out
Pros;

+It will generate mission system for players to follow and increase their in-game play times
+Non premium accounts will have a chance to access hourly premium features and it will increase their activity in game
+New players will have a chance to unlock their upgrades much faster which will increase amount of players in main & competitive lobbies
+This weekly/Monthly renewed system will generate more players than usual.

Cons;
-Well, it may cause building absurd units due to complete the mission.
-May cause increase in alt accounts to do missions faster
-Depends on developers to actually do it.

(I don't know how to put the image here let me try to put my masterwork made by paint)

The illustrious Amok and Ivan, true visionaries from Estonia, are poised to bring their innovative spirit and adaptability to the highest office. Did you know that during their reign, atWar servers were hosted in none other than Kenya? Yes, you heard that right! This bold move showcased their exceptional ability to think outside the box, maintaining peak performance even in the face of adversity. I know the developers are busy, but this gaming platform can adapt to the maps, and this is one area that could be updated. 71% of the earth is covered by water so implementing these changes will make the game more realistic.

Heat Check - Secretary of Defense
With extensive experience in rule enforcement and community standards, Heat Check would be a strong choice for Secretary of Defense, ensuring national security and strategic preparedness.

Eagle - Secretary of Education
Known for their vigilance and dedication to maintaining a fair play environment, Eagle's skills would be perfectly suited for the role of Secretary of Education, implementing robust policies for educational development.

Zoe - Secretary of Labor
Her role as a supporter and premium member signifies a deep investment in the community's welfare. Despite her personal hardships, including her father's mysterious disappearance for milk three years ago, Zoe has shown resilience and leadership. As Secretary of Labor, Zoe would advocate for fair labor practices and employment opportunities, ensuring that every American has the support they need. Her touching story and plea for her father's return highlight her compassion and dedication to family values.

DireWarlord99 - Secretary of Veterans Affairs
With a strong presence in moderation and community management, DireWarlord99 would be an excellent Secretary of Veterans Affairs, ensuring that those who have served are well taken care of.

Clovis1122 - Secretary of Technology and Innovation
A talented programmer from Jamaica, Clovis1122 volunteered under Ivan and Amok, contributing to the development of the atWar mapmaker. Although his work resulted in some of the most bugged code the world has seen, his persistence and willingness to tackle complex programming challenges are commendable. As Secretary of Technology and Innovation, Clovis1122 would bring a unique perspective to the role, focusing on improving the nation's technological infrastructure and fostering innovation despite past setbacks.

Nedris - Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
Beloved by the community for his excellent map-making skills and his ability to bring people together, Nedris is a natural fit for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Of Italian heritage and openly gay, Nedris embodies diversity and creativity. His experience in creating detailed maps translates well into urban planning and development, ensuring inclusive and well-thought-out housing policies. His popularity and people skills will be invaluable in fostering community and addressing housing needs across the nation.

Croat - Director of the CIA
A controversial yet experienced figure, Croat has been both accused of cheating and praised for his strategic prowess in atWar. His controversial methods and deep knowledge of strategic operations make him a fitting, albeit unconventional, choice for Director of the CIA. While some may question his tactics, his ability to handle complex situations and navigate through adversities cannot be denied.
A Bright Future Awaits

The Panda Jew - Supreme Court Nominee
A Jewish man from Israel, The Panda Jew has served in the military during the conflict in Gaza, bringing a wealth of real-world experience and calm under pressure. Known for his chill demeanor and being best friends with Pavle, their bromance has become legendary within the atWar community. While his gaming skills may not be the best, his likability and fair-mindedness make him an excellent candidate for the Supreme Court. His background and strong sense of justice will ensure a balanced and compassionate judiciary.

Imagine this dynamic team leading the nation with the same dedication and innovation they've shown in the world of atWar. Their diverse skills and forward-thinking approach are exactly what's needed to take the country to new heights. Universal atWar Premium Membership for All? It's not just a policy; it's the future!

1. What's New

Hello everyone and welcome to game 13 of the New World Empires game series. Thanks to Elijah for the original map and scenario: (New World Empires at War (v6) by Elijah).

Please note the turn duration is set for 12 hours not 48. This is an attempt to speed the game up. We'll see how it does or does not work. Let me know if you have an opinion or preference. I have also had some complaints about players attacking other players on turn one (1). As a general rule, do not attack anyone on turn one. Let's give everyone a chance to set up before being attacked. If it continues to be a problem, I will take stronger actions.

2. Game Protocols

Please observe the following game protocols:
• Do not attack other players on turn one (1). Give other players a chance to 'set up'.
• Always be considerate of other players. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
• Do not leave a game by timing out. If you have lost the game, surrender.
• Take your turn in a timely manner. Don't be the last player to take your turn every turn.
• Players are no longer restricted to their home countries on turn one.

3. Settings

• Starting funds are $50,000
• Capture player country for three (3) turns
• Maximum number of initial territories that can be selected is one (1)
• Maximum number of allies is two (2)
• Maximum number of players is twenty (20)
• Maximum number of turns is two hundred (200)
• Minimum rank is five (5)
• Turn duration is twelve (12) hours

4. Player's Invitation List

The Player's Invitation List is managed as follows:

You will be added to the Player's Invitation List if:

• You have joined a coalition game (coalition and non-coalition players).

You will be removed from the Player's Invitation List if:
• You have been inactive in atWar for 10 days or longer as of the game date.
• You request to be removed. All requests are final. No dithering please.
• You have been banned from coalition games.
• Niki Coalition Leaders and Officers are de facto members of the Player's Invitation List.
