Post your reasons below(preferably rational ones..... saying someone's skin pigmentation is darker and therefor they are inferior is not considered "rational". If you disagree with me, that's a you problem and you are welcome to make your own topic about it, I prefer to have educated/rational debates)

This is such a stupid thing for people to complain about considering there isn't a single actual Confederate Flag flying in any state capitol or memorial

I cant tell if you're trolling or not.

If you think this is the flag of the Confederate States of America then you are part of the problem

This flag is the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.

That doesn't take away its figurative implications. Just because you think you know some trivial historic fact doesn't take away from most Americans associating that flag with the confederacy.

Just because they associate it with something doesn't mean it should be taken down as a result, maybe I associate the gay pride flag with hatred, doesn't mean it should be taken down

I associate the American flag with tyranny and oppression over the Philippines as well as tens of thousands of deaths caused by the injustices against Native Americans. I feel we need to get rid of the Confederate flag AND the American flag because they were both used to inspire hate, racism, etc> anyone who thinks we need to get rid of the "Confederate' flag

It doesn't matter what you think to be completely honest. The largest thing associated with the confederacy is slavery; for many people, the very sight of the flag is enough to bring negative feelings. People don't think that way about the American flag. Life isn't fair.

So you're saying it is better to support re-education and the uneducated mob? Your right, life isn't fair. And since the vast majority of Americans are too stupid to realize the true history behind the flag, you're saying let's go with their misguided opinion and continue misinforming and miseducating our country. That's how we stop racism!!!

Its pretty clear that other than states rights, the Confederacy was built on slavery and overall racist principles. That's what most people think when they look at the flag and is the reason why it should be taken down. Your right, life isn't fair for the small minority of Southern whites who have a skewed worldview and perception of what is right and wrong.

A. I am not a Southerner
B. Just because the vast majority of people who want it taken down are ignorant fools does not mean it should be taken down because they are "offended".

They wouldn't take down a gay pride flag in the United States because only very - very - small segment of the population is offended. When the majority of Americans are offended by an almost universally accepted symbol of the Confederacy, it should be taken down. But no wait, "its not actually the flag of the Confederacy guys." You are having a laugh if you think some smart alec logic should precede public opinion.

Except it isn't a majority of the population that's offended it's just the small, loud, and idiotic minority like Al sharpton and Jesse Jackson that get offended by everything, and if the majority of the public thinks that 2+2=5 and it's accepted, that doesn't mean that it's right

I don't care if you fly it normally, but to have a symbol of racism and oppression putting the flag on a government building is frankly an embarrassment for the country.

It's not a symbol of racism or oppression...... it's a symbol of the Army of Northern Virginia ffs because pne of their generals thought the ACTUAL confederate flag resembled the American flag and was difficult to distinguish on the battlefield. The stars represent the 13 southern states the confederacy claimed to represent and St. Andrews cross represents x-ing out of a Union they felt was oppressing them. Slavery falls under the impression of state's rights. The majority of Southerners di dnot have slaves yet flocked to support the South, not just because they had slaves but because they were being subjugated by an overbearing North.

Too bad it's not a symbol of racism or oppression, quite the opposite actually, and the real embarrassment for the country is people like you who are uneducated to the point where you think the bars and stars is the flag of the entire confederacy

The problem with the flag, is not the flag itself but the stereotype of people associated with it: racists and rednecks.

I'm speaking for myself:
The main thing about the civil was state rights. The states wanted to do what they wanted, because back then, states were like individual nations in a way. However, the north were mostly republican and wanted a more centralized government. What broke the camel back was the fact that Abraham Lincoln was elected, and this upset southerners because in some parts, he wasn't even on the voting ballet. It just makes me sad that history is being forgotten. History is only written by the winners.

Source: Family. Born and raised in the south. Direct descendants of confederate and union soldiers.

Should the flag be removed? Well, that hard to say, but I will have to say yes. It is because of racism that the flag now has a negative connotation... So thanks for that. However, I do believe we should preserve the statues, because they are history of the land.

Why do all u non Americans even care? Haha.

It should be taken down for the slavery and anti-amerian and civil policies that are enacted today. Slavery is illegal, which the flag stood for.

At the same time, it shouldn't be taken down for the following reasons.

1) history
It's a historic flag, and it was flown by an actual country. They were the confederate states of america.

2) freedom of choice
Just as you have the choice to choose what religion you will cling to, or what soda you want to buy, you have the right to choose what flag you want to fly.

3) CUZ THE SOUTH GON' DO IT 'GIN

(Sorry bout that)

All joking aside, I am from the south, born and raised, and it is part of our culture. Taking the flag away and making it illegal would be a disgrace to southerners far and wide. It would be like the EU claiming all countrys flags illegal. (Almost). IF you go to really rural farm towns here, especially in states like Florida (northern areas) Alabama and Georgia, you will find plenty of confederate flags all over. Billboards, local restaurants, people's front porches, and flying from the back of their trucks. It's southern culture, and it's a shame to see that a few radicals might bring it down

It is by design. This is how you conquer a people culturally and socially. You strip them of their history and vilify them as a people. You punish their pride and you socially ostracize anyone who promotes it.

Defeatist rhetoric. You think they wont take down the statues? They are already doing that. They will tear them down, they will change the street names and they will smile while doing it. Your history, your people and its fight will be torn down and you with it. You agree that they should tear down the battle flag of the Confederacy at a Confederate war memorial? Pathetic. You can call yourself a Southerner, but you clearly don't think or live it.

They did the same thing in South Africa. All the history, streets and statues. All gone. And after they were gone, what was left? The people. You're next southern boy. And while you whimper at the prospect of being called a racist, opposing tribes plot your destruction. You deserve your fate. Those who do not fight for survival deserve their end. Nature rewards the strong, the weak get what they deserve.

No. Freedom of speech.

It's a damned symbol. It's not like they're forcing you to watch people being enslaved or anything. Why the heck should it be banned?

EDIT: I just realized, not every day I agree with Tik-Tok. That's a new one.

The flag is on a US state building blacks, Jews, Latin Americans and many other types of people have to walk around and in the building were the confederate flag is flown.

By the way the confederate flag was not always on that state building they put it up during the civil rights movement to install fear in blacks.

No one is trying ban the confederate flag from the private sector but only stopping the government from using it.

Both North Union and Southern Confederation were wrong and used double standards. United States boasted liberty and freedom but denied Confederation to secede and enjoy freedom, they invaded South and occupied them. In the other hand, Confederation wanted freedom from North Union and right to determine its own destiny while in the same time they oppressed their population because of skin color, thus letting us know they wanted freedom only for one part of the population while they didnt care for the other part.
