How does this upgrade even work. It seems wholly inconsistent with the bloody description of -4 to maintenance cost.

If I have 1 inf that cost 40 it's maintenance is 10% therefore 4. If I add my gen, it will -4 maintenance therefore that 1 inf will cost 0. (the next turn)

Except that isn't what I'm seeing when I run tests on it. It seems as if it has 0 effect, AKA BUGGED. If it is indeed bugged, I request this topic be moved to the bug section. The reason I ask here instead of the bug forum is maybe somebody has figured out some formula for how it works a while back. In my test, it is Europe 10k and I pick None Strategy Germany with extra cities. I run two separate trials. One with gen and one where I suicide gen into austria turn 1. Each time, I cap stack Berlin and don't build any more infantry than what I start with. I should have 23 infantry in Berlin. With General ====================================================================================================================================== No Gen Yes I do have the upgrade Something is wrong with the upgrade.

I think you're right, but if this really was the case... 6*23 gives the 138 troop expenses (none strategy inf are 60, 10% will be 6). If you substract 4 for every inf you'll get a final cost of 46 = 92 saved, 1 1/2 inf. But if this were to be looked at, it would be better if it wasn't implemented like the city bonus. For example, if you were playing PD and you had a stack of 50 inf + gen. Without gen, the upkeep of this stack would be 5*50 = 250.... but with gen the upkeep would only be 50 = 200 saved, or 4 inf It might not seem like a lot, but it's sure to affect gameplay Edit: if you look at the units and strategies screen, it seems like the cost reduction is added as -40 to all units if it's in the gen stack... which is not the intended purpose of the cost reduction (reducing upkeep, not price of units) and last time I checked I havent been able to make inf for free if my gen was in the city...

I can confirm that with general and no strat, bonus is not there. in html, with both 'no strat' and 'strat' the general bonus was not applied to the stack. This was with a strat selected (SM) so the bonus isn't just affecting 'no strategy' Before: After:

Ah I was responding to the OP, of how it works. It seems this is bugged, I think it counts as -40 in the finances as said by Dbacks. I will try test this, other ppl can too ofc.

If everybody has the upgrade, not so much. I think it'll add more depth to the game since people have to decide between gen stacking to save cash or to spread your forces out to be efficient.
