On a lonesome Sunday evening, I was casually browsing AtWar. It goes without saying that I didn't find any interesting matches, either they were too high of a level for an incompetent dweeb I must be with a Level 4 rank, or they were just uninteresting. The biggest problem I found is that they all had 4-5 minute turns, which really bothers me.

So, I decided, being the intelligent man that I am, to start a game out of nowhere with one minute - that's right - ONE minute turns, and after a few seconds, two men joined the duel. These men being the brave Nedward and Beardon, two people I never met in my life but would spend the next few hours battling. The game's limit was 100 turns, and that may seem small to those who ever played a casual match, but this was an hour and forty minutes of constant clicking, sweating and stress, an actual real-time strategy.

Throughout the game, major factions started popping up. It is worth noting I started as nothing - a small island in Oceania, French Caledonia, with barely any units or a capital. I could have gone with France, Germany perhaps! But no, this was a challenge. With the money I saved and the time I used, however, I quickly took over New Zealand and Australia, and went up to Asia from there.

I met a friend - this guy's name was King T - and boy, was he a hassle. He started as North China, and took over all of Russia and Asia very, very soon. He was no competition, he was THE competition. So, I made the one smart move I ever made in AtWar, to ally him. I set up a base at Taiwan, with airplane carriers, transports, and over a hundred tanks, but he trusted me, so I did not attack him. This, however, did not last long. Still, at the very end of our battle, we both laughed, wished each other well, and eventually, he surrendered so I could have a chance against my new biggest enemy, Guest57632.

His name sounds stupid, but the guy took over George Orwell's Oceania, half of Africa, almost all across the Atlantic, and as a diplomatic move, took Hawaii and my original starting spot of French Caledonia from me. And so, I decided to ally him too - we grew to around 1500 powers each side, before Germany kind of went AFK and he began claiming European and North African territory, significantly getting an advantage. Just because he had a lot of strategic power doesn't mean he was competent, though...

Remember Beardon? He was the least fortunate of us. Started as Argentina, and died as Argentina, held up for the full game. But he never achieved his glory, always staying very low on the international charts. During my short period of war with King T, I decided to ally the guy, meanwhile, soon after, my antagonist Guest57632 finally proposed we make peace. This was brilliant, as I finally had a shot at winning. However, right before the last round, he flipped.

I send him a clear diplomatic message, asking if I could please win. He spent most of his time away, and won mostly by luck, so I figured that the two hours I have poured into the game could have been avenged if I was finally able to rank up. Well, he was not in the mood... He accused me of 'sending money' to Argentina, and soon, declared war on me. In his eyes, I was betraying him. I didn't see why a simple alliance mattered, especially one that was older than his time in the game, but apparently it did to him...

So much so, he purposely insulted me and told me he would have done otherwise, if not for that pesky alliance. Gah! I tried to be nice to him, so here's the only screenshot I got, but hopefully you can believe me.

And, as such, the game ended... the final statistics being:

I was happy. Could have done some things different. Could have won. But this game meant to me so much more than loss or victory - this was some hefty practice. Thank you to all who participated in this legendary match!

All this story. all the build up. Various expansions of different players, explained in a beautiful way.
Then we get to Beardon. "Started as Argentina, and died as Argentina". I couldnt stop laughing to this one. D

All around, great stuff mate. Well done
