Simple: player names and ranks are hidden (Player 1, Player 2, Player 3...)

Sounds like an Easter egg sort of feature, I don't particularly like it. Cool idea though.

Sounds like Chrome's "opinion" of Silverlight. 'It's cool( because aW was made) but we don't particularly like it, so have this: you will die in September'

I guess I wasn't clear enough. What I mean is we should have an option that gives the host the ability to disable chat for all players. Well something like that.

Sounds like dictatorship. Disabling spectators I'd approve though

Sort of But still not a bad idea. It could help in FFA games.. players won't be able to create secret alliances with this option activated.

I kinda agree with Chrome here. Doesn't matter how much you try to prevent secret alliances, they will always happen (at least until today, I haven't yet to see any good proposal). Disabling the chat will just lead them to use a 3rd party messenger system just like Skype. However even if we get to make a trully FFA game, players would still complain about secret alliances like "Hey, you only took 1 city of Blue, but took 5 of mines. You guys are secret allies..."

meanwhile on a skype call... "Hey dude, I'm attacking delhi, in India. idk from who is that capital, since I can't see." "WAIT DUDE THAT'S MY CAPITAL DON'T ATTACK OMG". So sorry, fog of war won't work either. As long as there's a point of reference...

that will eat up his time and gimme a chance to strike and plann more. anyway just implement this option it would make this game less boring. Also if someone is using skype with another player , they just farming the map or clan mate. you can bann them from your game anyway.

We can't prevent players from using an IM service, but doing this will prevent players from allying or contacting others in the game. We could couple this with forced locked settings and alliances: 0, to prevent players from killing everyone else, voting for alliances and allyend. Fog of war would be beautiful.
