Is he Putin's protege or Pol Pot's copy? What you think about Philipine War on Drugs? Do you support it, dislike it or have no opinion about it?

After 8 months, the war resulted in:

1,100,000 surrenders
50,000 arrests
8,000 deaths

Philipine State said there are aproximately 3 million drug users and in the past they had only 1 million, so situation is getting worse and something had to be done. Duterte started the war by arresting all suspected drug dealers and drug users while encouraging civilians to arrest and shoot drug suspects on sight.

Support. In my opinion the kids and teenagers need to be rehabilitated but in a society we dont need cocaine, bath salts, heroine, marihuana, etc.... addicts. This people steal, destroy public buildings, overcrowd hospitals, kill elderly people for money, etc. So why someone need to defend them? Maybe kill them isn't the best solution but people voted for him so if people want this i respect phillipines' people decision.

I also support him, because drugs inevitably lead to death, so users cannot be granted same freedoms and rights as normal people. As Free Warrior said, they steal elderly people, making them stress and trauma, even killing them sometimes, then they sell their bodies for money so they can buy more drugs thus creating prostitution which attract mafia. Not to mention that drug market also attrack cartels which then bribe and corrupt politicians, police chiefs, media.

The only thing that bothers me is vigilantes and encouraging people to kill suspects, if that's true (if we can believe wikipedia, media and internet) then that's stupid, but i do understand that communities alone have to solve their problems without outside interfere like other towns, capital and region, so i guess Duterte meant that communities should arrest and judge drug suspects. I support that in wartime, because then civil court is not working (no time for all those lawyer speeches philosophically rethorically asking question boring everyone in the courtroom). In wartime, many countries kill on sight thieves, saboteurs and spies, so i guess since situation is alarming in the Phillipines, they can apply wartime rules.

It's unfortunate it has to come down to that, but when a country is plagued by drugs to such a degree, drastic measures are required.

Personally I'm very conflicted by this. On one hand, I find it worrying to see thousands of people killed without due process. While I have no sympathy for drug dealers, it does concern me that addicts, people who are so addicted they simply cannot stop, on their own, their desire, their need, for drugs. It does appear that vigilantes have been involved in many killings and for me at least, this does not seem surprising. Duterte has been encouraging the police to shoot first and ask questions later with this policy and for th most part, the police seem to be okay with this. It is not hard to believe that they would turn an eye from fellow citizens doing what they're doing. The police are not perfect- they are also corrupt and it seems as though they are using this to extort citizens both foreign and domestic as seen with the execution of that South Korean businessman.

On the other hand, hundreds of thousands have turned themselves in. It seems like these policies MAY be working- the only problem I see is that the Philippine prison system is being overrun. Their justice system I doubt will attempt to help rehabilitate these people. If anything, this might lead to a rise in gangs as understaffed prisons are unable to maintain order. Now perhaps I am applying my ow beliefs to a country with different circumstances than my ow, a different culture than my own. But I am concerned that his policies are aimed mainly at killing off people rather than helping them.

You suffered neuronal death from other things, not internet post, but people like to delude and persuade themselves its always something else.

>every drug case i know ended with death
>everyone who told me knows about drugs says it ended with death
>the only one who survives are the one determined to live and get better but they are 0.1% and even long after that they still suffer some illness caused by weak immune system and are overall failures in life unable to reintegrate back to society

But you can still smoke weed, going out having 'fun' in clubs at night, waking in the noon, no one will deny you that right, no one will judge you, because that's in your country and no one have right to interfere there from the outside, and i am kind of glad for that because irregular sleep, drug abuse weak immune system which then is fertile ground for various bacterias and viruses, then you nicely buy some medication from corporations thus making them profit and when you get better, you go out on the street protesting those same corporations for being too big and successful.

Please change the drugs you consume and your acquaintances and their drugs.
I have major in drugs and am as alive as the day I was born.
Besides, general rule: in most cases it's not the drug that kills, but the general situation of poverty added to the consumption of bad (in terms of quality) drugs. Or, to put it in other words: poor drug consumer die, if you are rich (or at least wealthy) you can do drugs and maintain a standard of living.
Following this logic: don't fight drugs, fight poverty!

So you propose an left wing anarchy with liberalism and give rights to everyone? Come on let's achieve Fat Acceptance, Drugs for everyone, 60+ Genders, Kill all the religious people, destroy traditional values, feminazi power, and all that bullshit you want.
Ehm no.
People are kinda tired of liberalism and Brexit and Trump election demonstrates that. All drugs are bad and they aren't for poor.
Weed is cheap in some countries but other drugs are very expensive and most of consumers steal to pay this drugs. I won't accept a drug addict society where people instead of working hard, passes the day in the park smoking weed or cocaine.

how did you link fighting poverty and the opinion that drug carrying teenagers shouldnt be shot to femenism? amazing, teach me please. look, this thread is about the philipines and the question wether we need harsher or less harsh drug laws, so lets talk about drugs

btw, the phrase "all drugs" includes coffee, alcohol and tobacco. if your immediate response is, that those werent dangerous, let me list all the drugs you might want to ban in order of lethality:
<--- less lethal | more lethal --->
Cannabis, Aspirin, Caffeine, Methadone, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Alcohol, Heroin
so, maybe we should shoot alcoholics first? alcoholics like you?

lethality is sorted by effective dose/Lethal dose f.e. 0.6 permilles of alcohol is required for a decent effect, whereas with 7 per mille you have a 50% chance to die, so the score is 0.7

2nd In my country high drivers kill more people than drunk drivers.
3rd Legalizing drugs will bring us more car accidents, even more crime, job accidents, high unemployment, etc... How can a normal person support drug addiction while in his own neighbourhood people are dying and destroying their own lifes cause they are drug addicts.

thats ridiculess, have you even ever been high? well if not, let me tell you what being high on weed is like: you laugh a lot and everything feels a little more. you dont drive while being on weed, maybe when you're on meth, but thats a different story, while you're generalizing "drugs". maybe people on coffee shouldnt be allowed to drive, they are high after all. thats ridiculess. i've not once heard of someone who drove over someone or even drove at all while high on weed, thats ridiculess. actually, you're much more peaceful than normally, while this is, what the amounts of damage attributable to each drug looks like per user:

just, look it up, i'm sure there arent more deaths in your country, attributable to whatever drug you think is making people drive like maniacs than alcohol. of course you shouldnt drive while on cocaine, but that doesnt mean cannabis did much harm at all. dont generalize, please.

also, obviously we shouldnt legalize meth and cocaine, but nobody said so. the point is, that people in posession of drugs shouldnt be shot at sight, and that drugs like cannabis dont do much harm.

I am asking if you want a society like this:
My neighbourhood has a lot of weed consumers and most of them dont study, dont want to work and they just live thanks to their parents.
So now you say one cup of coffee is the same as weed loooooool.
Weed causes a lot of mental problems and addiction. Maybe it isn't as harmful as cocaine crack, krokodil, bath salts but it is a dangerous drug. Today weed is legal only in Holland, liberal US states and some other countries like Morocco. If majority of the governments ilegalized it that means there is a serious problem about that. And that effects aren't so hilarious like you describe them.

holland had weed legal for ages. weed isnt crocodile, thats the point i was trying to make with the coffee comparison, because the difference between weed and crocodile is, in fact, only slightly less than the difference between a coffee cup and crocodile.

your neighbourhood is not representative, if they dont work while getting high every once in a while, chances are, they werent working in the first place. in case you still think weed makes people unproductive, let me count out the famous weed smokers i recall: Washington bush, Schiller, Barack obama, Bill clinton. look, trust me, it makes you unproductive for 5 hours, just like playing videogames or going on a vacation makes you unproductive.

at last, the negative effects of cannabis: 1 joint is roughly as harmful as 1.5 cigarettes. the average pot smoker smokes ~2 times per month, with his friends and smokes roughly 1/4th of a joint. so, being a weed "addict" is about as harmful as smoking 1 cigarette per month. negligible.

maybe i sound as though, i felt that way, maybe. What i mean though is: poverty makes people's lives shit, not drugs, drugs are more of a symptom than the cause.

f.e. Heroin addicts have a 95% chance to having been traumatized prior to their addiction, while healthy individuals usally wont get as addicted to heroin.
obviously we have to keep the wealthy from using amphetamines only to work harder. but those of them who think they cant work hard enough, but needed to, usally have had some fucked up experiences.
