I have been given GPS and satellite communication by the belief that the earth is close to spherical.
I have been given exactly nothing in terms of living comforts by the belief that the earth is close to flat.
Science is not about being right. Science is never right. Look at Newton and all the other scientists who turned out to be wrong. Science is never even meant to be right.
Science is about producing a useful model of the world. Given how I can write and submit an AtWar forum post via satellite internet four hundred kilometers from the closest city if I so felt like it, I'd say the spherical model of the world is pretty damn useful.
Science has done its job. It has produced a model of the world that so far has shown itself to be more useful than any other. Who cares what the shape of the earth actually is?

One can be wrong but that doesn't mean that next person can't be right. Once something is fully understood, right theories can be made. That doesn't mean that there are millions of right theories but enough of them are right or else the whole scientific system would collapse since many theories are based on scientific facts, believed to be right. You're confusing science with statistics, where everything is based on chances and they're always lower than a 100%.

Have you heard of Plato's cave?
Or at least you have heard of Matrix (the movie)?
Science does not prove itself. There is really nothing that can actually be proven to certainty.
Scientific "facts" are called theories. The biggest reason why is that scientific "facts" are simply explanation that has not been demonstrated wrong... yet.
Newton's theory is wrong. But when I'm designing an underwater robot, using "force equals mass times acceleration" as my model of kinetics is really good enough. It's wrong, but it's good enough.
Einstein's theory of relativity might be wrong. It has not been demonstrated wrong... yet. But it hasn't been proven right either, simply because it cannot be proven right.
But honestly, if it's good enough to design the GPS system and satellite internet, it's good enough. Nobody really cares whether it is right.

Plato's cave and Matrix only applies in case this world is a fucking dream. Believe what you want. I won't discuss about that.
Have you ever read a scientific article and their reasoning? I think not.
DO NOT CONFUSE FACTS WITH THEORIES!!!! BIG BANG IS A THEORY!! ATOMS ARE A FACT!!!
Newton's theory is not wrong, where do you get that from?? It's just not entirely accurate so it can't be applied directly to some cases, such as the universe as a whole. Einstein's theory is applied science, can't be proven wrong without an experiment that proves it wrong, which has never happened yet.
ANYWAY, science can be right! Do not generalize that much, you're not aware of the whole scientific world so do not talk without knowing.

Can you conclusively prove that the world is not a dream? No...
We base our lives on that assumption because "the world is not a dream" is a better model than "the world is a dream." Technically speaking, neither has been conclusively proven nor dis-proven.

Have you ever read a scientific article and their reasoning? I think not.
I have, actually. My school is pretty heavy on the scientific method, so we had to read scientific journals for homework.
The reasoning, as I see it, is either
"The evidence is compatible with <insert theory name>, therefore there is no evidence that it is wrong," or
"The evidence is incompatible with <insert theory name>, therefore it may be incorrect. The actual evidence suggests <insert new theory>."

Then why is it bloody well called the atomic theory?

Newton's laws state that force is mass times acceleration.
Force is slightly more than mass times acceleration, according to the latest theory.
So, according to the latest theory, Newton's theory is wrong.

Science can be right. Unfortunately, it cannot be proven right nor is there any evidence to believe that it is right.
I am not aware of the whole scientific world. Strictly speaking, nor are you. That does not make my arguments any less valid. To argue thus borders on ad hominem fallacy.

Cause it started out as a theory. Now it's a fact that atoms exist. UNLESS, you somehow prove that all this is just a dream.

NOT WRONG, INACCURATE!! SIMPLIFIED!! SUMMARIZED!! FOR DUMMIES!! Call it as you want, it's not wrong, it just isn't accurate enough to fit every single event in the universe!! There's a really huge difference between wrong and inaccurate.... but I asume you won't understand it anyway so just skip this. Let's put it this way: would you use some super complex equation with integrals and other hard mathematical operations or would you rather use the simplified version which is a simple multiplication? Ofc, by summarizing you're making some minor mistakes, but that doesn't make the whole equation wrong!!
Science can be right. Unfortunately, it cannot be proven right nor is there any evidence to believe that it is right.

It cannot be proven right? Are you expecting some all powerful god to confirm every single step you make? I don't get your point of view...
But I do know more about science than you, read more, learned more. Thus I can observe how you're generalizing more than you should! It's a valid argument since you're talking from ignorance.

I don't have to prove anything, since I am merely stating that nothing is certain.
You're the one claiming that something is a fact. Ergo, on you lies to burden of proof.
Things that are neither proven nor disproven are not facts. Not being able to disprove the existence of the atom does not prove its existence.

Newton's law claims a falsehood. How else do you even define "wrong"? Force is not mass times acceleration.
Just because it's convenient/good enough/often used doesn't mean it's not wrong.

Never be afraid to admit that you're not certain is my point of view.
There are very few certain things in life and scientific "facts" are not one of them.
Please, if you're so certain I'm speaking from ignorance, I'm sure you have the arguments with which to back up that claim, right?
Right?

Most people use the word 'theory' to mean an idea or hunch that someone has, but in science the word 'theory' refers to the way that we interpret facts.
Scientific facts stand ...interpretation might be wrong.
And a theory that hasn't been proven yet is called hypothesis. Big bang theory, despite its name is still a hypothesis.
Theory of Gravity on the other hand is a proven scientific fact ...despite flath earth idiots having a "hypothesis" that you don't fall when you jump, but the earth goes up.
Of course i love how all of the conspiracy theories and others who defy science ...have zero or retarded arguments, not to mention ad hoc "god did it" or other crap.

I am telling you to fuck off. Which means, I don't want to talk to you, so fuck off. I have explained to you many times, if you want to find out the truth you will look with your own two eyes. If I explain to you the procedure to find out the distances you would not believe me because you think every thing I am saying is false.
So why should I waste my time with you? Which is why I said I can assure you the distance, but if you don't believe me, go out and measure it on your own.

If you guys don't want to believe me, I can advice you this, go out and buy yourselves a sextant and measure how far and big the sun and moon are from wherever you're standing. I can assure you the sun and moon are about 32 miles in diameter and about 3000 miles up. The sun is not 92 million miles away like you've been told... go ahead and measure it yourselves, then get back to me.
Lol, if they were that close and that small, both of them (the moon and sun) would be sucked into earth's gravity, and would collide with earth. (and would do it in a matter of seconds)
Not only that, but it would also mean earth would have to be the center of our solar system, with all the planets orbitting earth, which is inconsistent with Copernicus's heliocentric solar system view, (which, by the way, has ALL scientific evidence on its side supporting the sun as the center of the solar system)
Having the earth as the center of our solar system would also result in 1 continuous (everlasting) season every year (another thing: we wouldn't even have the term "year" if the earth were the center of the solar system); instead, as I hope you have noticed, we have spring, summer, fall, and winter every year.
No need to reply to me twice. I saw your message but I've ignored it because there is no point in arguing here any more.

No, you misunderstand. I wasn't trying to find out, I was letting you know some things that prove your observations as being incorrect (or it may be that the equippment you used was faulty). If I were to PM you, I doubt very seriously I would get a response. If you do not see any valid proof in the facts I have stated, it is virtually impossible to get you to see the reality, One reason you ignored it was because if we continued to debate the facts I had stated, it would have been proved otherwise of your thinking. But, if you will not consider it, then I'm done here. You may believe what you want, I just thought I'd share that with you.
Ok, how can you prove anything of what you told me? That's right, you can't.
If you believe the sun and the moon is that far and that big/small. Go out and get your self a sextant and measure them, then get back to me. All the information you have is unverified, the only reason you believe that is because it is pushed onto you.
Answer me this, if we are going around the sun, after 6 months we should be on the other side of the sun, correct? So why isn't day time night and night time day after 6 months of traveling in space? Does that make sense? It may take some time for you to wrap your head around... but that is how it should work if we go around the sun like you claim we do.
Cheers mate.
