Yeah, this is the first time I see two units with the same defense taking turns to defend. One turn the cruiser would defend, the other turn, the drea would defend. I've done some tests prior with the opposite situation, and at least with units with the same attack, whoever decides who attack and who defend is random.
Just letting the screenshots here, will elaborate later...

!?!?!?! This is what happened:
I move out my infantries to Frankfurt, from Krakow in poland I send one ATS with 5 units. One for lyon, one for paris, one for benelux, one for Milan and rest two along with ATS I send them to Frankfurt...
... yet, his paris wall fight against my whole stack of troops, and at the end I didn't got to take Frankfurt.

I attacked all his walls, one by one, with around 3-4 artillery and 2 conscripts. Somehow all the troops grouped for a big battle...

Did you merge Belarus units with main stack and move to Kiev? Because I know I sent a unit or two to Belarus that turn and possibly something weird could have worked where they got TB'ed into Belarus, and your army got moved there?

No I moved 8 infs and gen to kiev I think, directly. I moved some to poland too, and sent 5 mil in ats to belarus.
You can see a faded line going for kiev but when you look near berlin there is no battle...

No SS's but two strange things that happened just recently...
1. I had my gen stack walled in Berlin, and without merging into any other stacks moved it strait into Warsaw. Somehow when the next turn started it showed the movement line, but the stack was still in Berlin....as if it had been TB'd. Very strange indeed.
2. Not quite as strange, but I guess just a weird game mechanic. I used a unit that had been walling Hungary to break Serbia wall, I also had left 0 in Krakow (small poland city). Now I guess Serbia on their turn used their wall unit to attack Krakow, but instead of taking it because I left it empty. My unit that attacked him teleported to Krakow and was in the city playing "defense" so I held the city and magically had 1 unit there. I know it was the wall unit that moved there because again I could see the lines of movement.

Very strange indeed. My best guess is that it was a random bug then unless someone has a better explanation? It would be nice if Admins could release a post detailing exactly how TB mechanics are formulated, especially in regards to merging units because there seems to be a "grey area" where weird things happen.

Same has happened to me relative to your stack in belarus.
Anyway I don't have ss but sometimes in a battle where you have 20inf and 20 tank lets say and that stack is attacked while in city for some reason the 20 tank dissapear and do not take part in the battle but either you lose or win they reappear in the city they were....
