Tension Between Players and Mods

We can't deny that there is tension and in some cases hate, frustration, and other emotions of the sort toward our mods.

I believe the sole cause of this is: Mods do a half ass job and only take action for 1/1000000 issues happen when they are online.
"If the mods aren't moderating, well what's the problem?"
The problem is that when the mods actually do issue punishments, the person receiving the punishments feels that the warnings issued are based upon personal reasons. This is understandable considering the fact that there are countless other members doing the same thing that caused this person to get a warning, yet they are able to get away with it without a punishment. The person who received the warning then spreads rumors about how he was treated unfairly and how mods abuse their powers.

So we are left with two options.

1.) Mods step up and stop being lazy.
I am not a fan of this option, especially since mods get easily butthurt when we spew racist comments. There's a type of rhythm we have when we speak to each other here on atwar. We call each other gay, faggots, dumbfucks and the lot. But the majority of the time that I use these phrases, I'm often being sarcastic and more importantly, the person I'm talking to understands that too. We all make jokes about british people, kebabs, arabs, jews, Americans, gays, jews, hitler, jews. The point is, we all are able to laugh and point out each others differences as well as laugh at our own. I don't think there is anybody here that really believes we should burn jews and homos. think deep down, everybody here as a mutual respect for everybody and all our 'racist remarks' are for shits and giggles. I make fun of british people all the time, yet I'm still friends with the leaders and officers in my clan that are British. I actually don't mind the british, I just think british jokes are hilarious. This is why I favor option two.

2.) Get rid of mods all together.
When was the last time somebody was being excessively bullied on atwar? When was the last time a mod took action in a case like that? I can't remember, can you? Mods don't really serve a point, except for getting people to stop spamming in the help and global chat. Even then, people still spam. I think we can manage ourselves as a community. We don't need mods.

I think we need mods, but they should be chosen by the people. There should be a vote so the players can choose who they think is fair and would do a good job.

I like Neros idea, but then we have the possibility of also getting some actual shit mods. There need to be standards I think it should be performance based. Current mods should get performance reviews from the players and if they don't have much support they loose modship. The same way though if some players are really good for the community they can be voted in.

In an Ideal world there would be no mods, personally I don't have a problem with any of them.

However imo they should be on an incognito account so that 'personal' problems cannot be used by players in arguments (simply Mod1, Mod2. etc), ideally they would also be neutral i.e not affiliated with clans etc, but must remember they are also players who should be able enjoy the game. Anonymous mods would save us all from threads like 'Hugosch did this, Tophats is raging, Cthulu is lame etc'

I choose option C: Realize this is a fucking internet web-game and stop making dumb bullshit overdramatic, and have fun with the fucking game.

Please no more posts about mods. could you accept amoks/ivan choice?

AW is too small and too multikulti for such a thing, if you are used to talking to mods you can tell exactly who you are talking to just due to their grammar.

I've changed my stance on the subject many times personally, the issue I had with voting in a mod is the same I have with actual democracy; I don't want hdrakon to have a vote!

that being said, there is no solution(besides the final solution) for this but to be proactive in having a quality/active moderation team who are willing to give up time, that has and probably always will fall on Ivan/Amok, so if you don't see it now - you likely never will.

in reference to point no.1, its all very fine joking about with friends, but do it in pr or clan chat or whatever where ppl know you.

nobody wants to log the lobby and see some randomer ranting about how they hate nigguhs and jews and they should all be raped and shot etc(this being an actual situation i've encountered on more than 1 occasion). reflects badly on the community. unfortunately genuine racists and homophobes etc exist out there.

as for point no.2 theres nothing wrong with most the current mods, an believe me they serve a purpose, you want a less problematic mod team?

-do not give modships to players under 18, as usually teenagers of that age havent quite yet developed the ppl skills etc required to be a half decent personable mod

-make sure any potential mods are known players, in regard to both their personalities an their motivations for accepting a modship

-remove vril as a mod, as he seems an all too common denominator when players are complaining about the current mod team.

The flame war and locking of this thread by the totalitarian mod government will begin momentarily

I would say, the best way to make mods anonym, would be to like...not name them mods anymore, and if ppl get punished, they just see 'you got punished for (wahtever reason)'. the mods just shouldn't shout out that they are mods. they should be like invisible.

and maybe for the admins there should be an option to see what mod did waht, and they could check if a mod goes mad or something like that.

Yes, I think I look rather good, actually.

Neither choices are viable options therefore I think this should be locked anyway. However, in my opinion if none of you made any of those obscene "jokes" then there would be almost no need for mods. But as it is, I think the moderators aren't doing a bad job. Can they step their game up? Of course. But, how many of these topics will it take before we actually take a definite course of action? Is any action needed or is this just another waste of a topic? I usually never speak on this topics but for personal reasons I see it fit this time. These topics are no longer amusing and serve no purpose as always but to put down our moderators. Why DO we have mods? If everyone followed the rules then the answer would be there are no mods. Reality is we DO have people that break the rules therefore we have mods that do a great job at what they do. How can you complain? Seriously?

Revise your thinking on the topic and if you've come to the same conclusion I have then you'll delete this topic.

Mods should NOT have the ability to join in conversations in lobby , strictly on global to warn of abuse and PM to give warnings, mods have become everyone's budy as they chat and take part of the conversation with everyone ells, eventually people lose respect for them they see them as just another player being nosy or an ass hole. any mods using fowl language for joking or serious out of anger should be terminated right away, calling people "fagot dumbfuck" etc in a public lobby even if its with a friend. others see this behavior and lose respect for mods, would you listen to some one that was just in lobby calling some other player a fagot dumbfuck? i wouldent and would freek and see it as abuse of power if i was muted or warned myself by this individual that has no right or maturity to be telling me what to do.

You most likely have a problem with mods because you take their professional decision personally. Thats why incognito mods fixes it. Most mods are nice and trollable, enjoy it while it lasts.

I say, make Desu a mod. Then AW will be 100 times better.

How to fix this stuff.

1.- mods should adopt a "first offense" policy, in whish only the first person to offend is punish.
2.- remove off-topic forum.
3.- encourage the use of ignore.
