UPDATE: it appears we've been a bit hasty with the implementation, and not everyone's been happy, to put it mildly. So, we've now decided to remove automatic rank limitations from the Main room, and lower Beginners room allowed ranks to 0-6. Hopefullly it would be enough to accomplish what we set out to do, without pissing everyone off.

Hi everyone! One of the most frustrating things in atWar is transitioning from the Beginners room to Main. After being on top of things in the rather relaxed Beginners room, you're plunged into a tank full of sharks, with little warning. Suddenly the game is not fun anymore, and besides, a bunch of your friends are still in the Beginners, and you can't go there.

So we've decided to mix things up a little, and smoothen the transition between the rooms. First of all, the limit for the Beginners rooms has now been raised to rank 0-7 0-6. Main is still 3+.

Second, and most important, is the introduction of default rank limits for games. We had rank limits before, of course, but they've been always set to 0-20 by default, and not many people bothered altering them (and non-Premium players couldn't). Now rank limits are set to +-3 (relative to your rank) by default, with an option to change them to +-5. Ranks 10+ have default limits of 7-20, with an option to change it to 5-20 (or anything in between). Rank limits are automatically set in the Beginners room only

For example, if you're rank 5, you will now be able to open games in the Beginners room, but the rank limit will be set to 2-8 by default, which you can expand to 0-10. If you're rank 0, the default range will be 0-3.

We hope these changes will make games more evenly balanced, protect lower rank players and help them to gradually transition to playing more experienced players.

Cheers!

Congratulations, you made the game worse!
You should try letting us know before you implement retarded shit in the first place. If you think it's a great idea, it might be a steaming pile of crap.

If you want to make your game even more crap, just force us high ranks to play 3v3 only. Good job.

Yes I am pissed off because I can't play any fucking games with this stupid shitty rank limitations. And I know it's going away tomorrow but, what about today?
Who's fucking bright idea was this? Who actually thought this would make everyone happy?
Fuck's sake.

So amazing.... now the newbs can getrekt by lvl 7's too!

Also, this will just encourage people to make new accounts and farm off the newbies with advanced strategy.

im not even going to get into how bad the newbies are, and how frustrated they get when lvl 7's farm on them. I almost quit the game myself because of this. the only reason i didn't quit was because of the lvl 5 limit, It made me have confidence that im only 4 lvls behind... now the newbies are going to be instantly crushed and they will flee fro this game.

great job, admins. You somehow made this game worse. Now the newcomers will be newleavers. I cry everytiem for this game...

0-7 is way too much. 0-5 or 0-6 would be better. Also, the rank limits are seriously not cool. It limits farming, but it also limits the number of games available to you.

If you read the update, it's been changed to 0-6 already.

Sorry to summon you and amok but I beg your pardon. I would like to know your opinion on what I think could be an alternative:

- Remove beginners room: more than advantages, it only gives disadvantages; people don't learn much there, they become afraid of high ranks cause they have never interacted with them before, it's a place to farm alts and elo... basically it only delays the inevitable encounter of newbies with the real AW.

- Implement the rank limit only to low ranks, such as 0-4/5/6, which ever you prefer to try. This rank limit would work as some sort of "beginners room" for them, since it would protect them when starting a game where high ranks could farm them but at the same time, they become more aware of the true level of gameplay. Beginners room is like a bunker, they need to see what's out there and interact with higher ranks sooner so that they lose this fear that some people might feel when moving towards the main room. This way, they won't have complains about rooms, they will move on step by step, increasing the rank of their rivals while being able to move on whenever they feel they're ready.

Besides, the "shark theory" you gave before doesn't really apply here since sharks can be lower ranks farming even lower ranks. This high rank thingie is quite relative to the rank you're at.

Prob's not with those sharks, the real prob is people allyfagging and killing off the weaker ones fresh from the beginner room. But hey, it's a war game. All is fair in love and war <3

Yes, it's been suggested before. And Sun Tzu in our team is the proponent of this solution. However, I'm quite reluctant to do any room restructuring after the massive backlash from the previous attempt. Any number of things can go wrong. And there are still some advantages in having a separate room, for example:
- Separated room chat (arguably better for beginners).
- No confusion for newcomers over which games they can join, as pretty much any game will be open for rank 0.
- No accidental joining of 0-20 games filled with high ranks, and being slaughtered in a couple of minutes.

Not everyone have this type of mentality to give up when playing with stronger players, some get to become eager to get better like those strong high ranks from the beginning, and invest a lot playing with dedication for far longer. And about chat rooms, main room & beginners room are partially dead. It's used once in a while to either spam game advertisement or for short time talks about random stuff.

Since combining the 2 rooms will lead to more open games for high and low ranks, I propose to fuse the two rooms to one and let these premium free low ranks from rank 0 up to 4 - 5 (lower or higher up to you) an possibility to change only rank limit as long as they are in that rank range.

Give it a trial time, this can hopefully increase players base at times when there's almost barely 5 games in lobby.

Edit: I didn't read raul's post before I wrote mine, yet it looks like we suggest the same thing therefore I support his idea

Yup, we actually talked a bit about this topic before I posted here and we both agreed on our opinion: beginners room is more detrimental than beneficial. Anyway, I understand it is a really big change for beginners but I don't think it is in the wrong direction. In my case, such change would thrill me. And those who are new, won't even know how was this game structured before the change had been implemented.
- I have joined the beginners lobby a few times and there didn't seem to be much activity
- The next two points can be easily solved as when they join, they will atuomatically realise there's a high rank in that game. Besides, this way they will notice their existance and will be able to confront them as soon as they like, being able to learn from them faster and becoming conscious of some gameplay tactics that they wouldn't have learned in beginners room, such as walling.

I'd say there's no reason for a blacklash against this change. It wouldn't hurt anyone. In practice, things would stay the same. Newbies would be able to make their own games, which high ranks wouldn't be able to join due to the rank limit. High ranks would keep making their games, where low ranks could join if they wish to. But instead of being separated, they'd be together and coexist. This interaction could be very beneficial. It is a gradual integration of new players. Not so sudden as by changing rooms.
