Content Update 2020 #1: Blitzkrieg Buff + More!

I'm pleased to announce on behalf of the AtWar Implementer Team that Blitzkrieg has received 2020's first buff!

For quite a long time now Blitzkrieg has remained a beloved and popular Strategy used by many, whether it be in competitive team games, duels, World 50ks, Scenarios, RP- You name it. Much like Imperialist in this regard, Blitzkrieg gives players a blanket buff for all units in the form of mightier range capabilities. However in recent years, Blitzkrieg has become outpaced by many other strategies and lacks the kind of defence capabilities to survive later on in most games. Much thought, discussion, and time was put into remedying this issue and planning ahead to ensure Blitzkrieg remains a staple to most, but catches up with the competition. To do so, we've increased the Range buff from +3 Range to +4 Range.

The hardest part of balancing a Strategy is determining the Ethos by which a Strategy operates; How you play the Strategy optimally. In the case of Blitzkrieg, range is key: If you can reach your targets faster than your opponents, you can effectively control much more of the map at times when they simply cannot. In the past, Blitzkrieg did in fact already have the +4 Range buff, but that along with the still current -1 City Def to Infantry were implemented some years ago after Blitzkrieg proved to be overly exceptional at what it does. For right now, we're bringing back just the +4 Range buff in hopes that Blitzkrieg can become a higher-tier Strategy in competitive games, and also add a new layer of creativity in skill usage in World games as well as Scenarios where the Strategy is especially beloved.

As always however, the Implementer team is always striving to buff, nerf, and create new facets of gameplay going forward. If you have any suggestions, always remember to make a thread in the Ideas and Suggestions forum, we look forward to every idea you put forth.

Along with this, we would like to announce on behalf of Dave and everyone who asked for ports on the Great Lakes: Chicago and Toronto are now port cities on the Default Map!

To celebrate this new buff to Blitzkrieg, the Supporter team is pleased to announce a new kind of tournament: the Blitzkrieg Challenge. This challenge will involve playing games on the Default map using Blitzkrieg, where you score points for winning said games. The players with the first, second, and third most challenge points at the end of January will receive a commemorative trophy, as well as a horde of Protocoins and Strategy Points!

We hope to introduce more of these challenges in the future as new Strategies and balance updates come out. The Blitzkrieg Challenge will officially start on Saturday, the fourth of January 2020. Players will be redirected to post their screenshots in the official tournament thread at that point. There will be two separate posts for lower and higher ranks; meaning ranks ranks 1-6 will have a separate post from the rank 7+. We'll have official details regarding the rules, point allocation, and any other information soon- stay tuned!
