OK, as you might have noticed, the last few days the server wasn't very nice. In fact, it's been naughty, very naughty. Crashing and staying down like a total killjoy. However, instead of punishing it with repeated kicking, we decided to fix a few things.

Turned out that was a huge memory leak that was clogging the server's drain. After plugging the leak, things look a lot brighter - the AW server now magically eats 5 times less resources - which should help that fat ass to get into shape.

Anyway, carry on with having fun, everybody. Sorry about the interruptions.

First again. (^_^)

Clearing RAM every now and then helps quite a bit.

How about doing that every now and then in future now we are so many players? Like the first Monday morning of every month, or at the beginning of a new season?

I'm sure players would be thankful, because even if it means not being able to play for a short time, we do get more time where we can play without (hopefully) any trouble at all.

How the hell would it affect the server? Even if the RAM was so damn overused on the server-side that the server couldn't get round all the clients, there would still be a minute difference in response speed from the client's point of view.

But yes, extended uptime is generally bad for the server, but mainly because it wears out the components and the server will crap out rather quicker than intended. Nothing to do with the bloody RAM!

As it works for normal PCs, I thought there might be something similar you can do for servers. Sorry if I'm wrong.

We've gotten over 7000 new players in the last week. Is afterwind's server ready for this amount of players? Today the amount of players online spiked to 300.

So far things seem to be going rather well. If we need more raw power, can always upgrade the server.

We have enough power, but there's some nasty something that causes the service to restart every day. Upgrading a server won't solve it. We're now desperately looking for what caused it (totally out of nowhere).

And yes, upgrading will cost up money (naturally).
