The progress on custom maps is going full-speed, a lot of things are ready, but other still require some work. Along with the promised custom maps, we're also releasing Population casualties, revamped End game screen/stats, new lobby interface and some other minor goodies.

The release date for the limited public alpha is 10.10.2012 - in one month!

Sorry, but I just want to ask some questions.

Since the changing of new things, will it make it harder for more people to access this game?

For Example, Fifa 08, Fifa 09, Fifa 10, were playable but then Fifa 11 onwards on PC can't be accessed for me because of my crappy computer.

Will the same system requirements be allowed on the new update, or will there be some changes to the requirements?

Its great and all, but I want to know that I can actually play it

I'm not sure Population casualties will be as exciting as some of you might expect. What happens is, in every attack on the city some of the civilians die - this depends on the intensity of the battle and the attacking units' collateral damage rating (some, like bombers will obviously do more damage to civilians). The loss of population is reflected on city income and reinforcements. Lose 50% of the population and half of the income and half of the reinforcements will be gone as well. Population will gradually increase as well, though rather slowly.

Population casualties will be shown in the battle menu, events menu (for particularly epic battles with severe losses - this will be shown to all players) and in the end game statistics.

So, not that much is affected at the moment, but we're hoping this will add a bit more variety to units and strategies, and will possibly create some interesting scenarios / victory objectives in the future.

I'm going to post some new artwork in a separate update soon.

What happens is, in every attack on the city some of the civilians die - this depends on the intensity of the battle and the attacking units' collateral damage rating (some, like bombers will obviously do more damage to civilians). i want the option to turn population casualties off, for me it will unbalance the game competitively. :/ and have no real interest in using it.

anyway, my thoughts on it.
really with modern warfare, bombers should be able to decrease income in attacks by bombing military factories, the same with destroyers. but infantry, tanks, marines, submarines etc should do pretty much no damage to population or income whatsoever.
i mean it's not like soldiers go in and mow down whoever they want, they try to avoid civilian casualties at all costs.

anyway if you are determined to have every unit cost population casualties:
5% or even 10% per turn should be a good enough increase. 10 turns or 5 turns to get back to full, i know it's not realistic, but neither is a city losing half of it's population in a war.
for example it is estimated in the Afghanistan war, 12,500-14,700 civilians have been killed, it is probably more but nowhere near to 50% as the entire population of afghanistan is 30million.

As I mentioned, units will have collateral damage rating, which can be modified in map editor. If you put 0 there, there will be no collateral damage. Anyway, remember that from now on we're talking about all sorts of scenarios - medieval, fantasy, space and whatever, so the situation we have in modern warfare doesn't always apply.

ah so it's not for normal maps, only for scenarios, that's awesome. it's a nice feature don't get me wrong, just not my thing.

actually tbh normal maps will be used very rarely used by premiums once the update is released, so yeah the modifier is great.

modern war is not a "real" war, right now wars are more tactical, but wars like ww2 and ww1 have alot of population casualities.

basically you can say that ELO is a rating system, where you can see who is the best player (not the one which is playing most). It is very common for chess players.

Will you be able to create new generals? Like for example in a Rome scenario there can be a Julius Caesar general which gives 1+ attack to any "legions" in the stack. Also will teams be able to unlock certain units after a certain turn? Like maybe a rebel faction will have militia-like units until turn 15 where they will be replaced by a more powerful unit?

Yes and given money by a certain week in events, and be able to place generals at place instead of capital, and maybe multiple generals.
